Heather Burns

I studied Fine Art at Leeds University. After that I took my Art Teacher’s Certificate there, and then had my first teaching post at one of the Cambridgeshire Village Colleges for 3 years.

In 1987 I moved to Clitheroe in Lancashire and started teaching Art and Design at the Grammar school there. I’ve exhibited my work at The Old Fire Engine House, Ely , Cambridgeshire and The Haworth Gallery, Accrington in Lancashire.

I have been enjoying collaborative work in recent years with the Cambridge based arts group Artipeeps, and have produced a painting interpreting Book VII of Ovid’s ‘Metamorphoses’. This went on show, along with 30 other creative’s work from across the world, reinterpreting Ovid’s famous book, at Hanse House Kings Lynn Norfolk in September 2014. I have also collaborated in another show with Artipeeps based on Norse Myth again showing at Hanse House in 2015.Current work is dominated by a large piece for a show I am co-curating for Neo-artists in Bolton based on the theme ‘Self and Other’ for summer 2018.

I am also studying for an Artshealth MA at UCLAN developing puppetry for social connectivity for adult survivors of sexual abuse, and hope to complete this next year as well.

I am primarily a colourist interested in landscape and narrative. Lately I have been working in oil on canvas again after a period exploring acrylics. I work using expressive gestural marks, and respond using a range of scales and surfaces. My art-cards are currently for sale at The Platform Gallery, Clitheroe.
